Sunflower Cake Smash | Framingham Cake Smash Photographer | Framingham, MA
What a fun cake smash session we had here in my studio! Mom requested a sunflower theme and I knew just what I wanted to do. The scene is simple, but I hung sunflowers in the background to give a pop of color and help create a Sunflower Cake Smash set.
To do this set, all you need is string, faux sunflowers (mine are from Wayfair - here is the link Sunflowers), and a something to hang the string on each side of the back! Viola!
Tips for a Success Baby Photo Session - Boston Baby Photographer Ann Lyle
Here are some tips for a successful baby photography photo shoot:
Before the session, start planning for a happy baby!
Avoid planning pediatric shots for the day before or the day of the session. Shots can make your baby feel poorly and they won’t be their usual self before the session.
Has the baby’s nap schedule changed? If so, you may need to reschedule the photo session. Contact your baby photographer as early as you notice the pattern so they can do their best to accommodate a request to change the time of the photography session.
On the day of the session: Be prepared!
Ensure that your baby is well-fed and well-rested. Make sure they have had their nap and a snack/bottle before arriving at the photo studio. Consider giving your child an extra bottle in the car to avoid hunger during the shoot.
Clean your baby's face and nose before arriving at the session. Babies hate having their faces cleans, it makes them upset and it tends to leave red marks. Best to do that in the parking lot so they aren’t starting the session upset. Please bring wipes to the studio for any touch-ups if necessary.
Bring a burp cloth to catch drool or spit-up.
What to wear for the session (baby): Simple is best!
In my baby sessions, your child will have the opportunity to wear two outfits during the photo shoot. My recommendation is to opt for simple clothing that allows your baby to be the star of the images. Great places for outfits are Janie and Jack, Noralee, Jamie Kay, or Bonpoint
Solid colors are ideal
Consider outfits that showcase their arms, legs, fingers, and toes - show off that baby!
Choose clothing that fits properly. Clothing that is slightly small is better than clothing that is too big in photography.
Try the clothes on your baby before the session to ensure they look good on them.
Unless you specifically want a formal photo, it's generally recommended to avoid shoes, socks, or tights for the session.
By following these tips, you can help create a comfortable and enjoyable environment for your baby during the photo shoot, increasing the chances of capturing beautiful and memorable baby photos. I can’t wait to see you in the studio!
Boston Baby Photographer | 6 Month Photo Session
There is a popularity to reserving 2 sessions in the first year: the newborn session and the cake smash session. I agree… these are both WONDERFUL! But, I must insist that you add one more: the 6-month photo shoot. I have been photographing babies for over 10 years, and I believe this session may be the most important session of the first year.
A 6-month photography session captures a special milestone in a baby's life, marking the mid-year mark of their growth and development in the first year. Your little one may be sitting confidently at this age, but most are not. I encourage parents to consider what is most important - exactly at midyear, or sitting up. As you plan your mid-year session, consider that. Some parents book at 8 months just to be sure they have a sitter.
At 6 months, babies have usually developed their own unique personalities and are becoming more interactive with their surroundings. They have not yet reached stranger danger, and they will love being at the studio. This age is curious, playful, and full of expressions - perfect for a photo shoot!
One of the remarkable aspects of a 6-month photo shoot is the range of possibilities it offers. The photographer can showcase their little personality by capturing candid shots of them sitting, grabbing their toes, playing with toys, and having big gummy smiles.
I like to say this is the Gerber baby age (between 6 months - 10 months old). This is the age when your baby is going to look like a “baby”. By the time one year comes along, they will start to take on the look of a toddler, so don’t wait!
Whether your baby can sit or not, the session will capture the precious moments of their growth and development, creating timeless memories that you will cherish for years to come. So, get ready to celebrate this milestone and watch your little one's unique personality shine in the beautifully captured 6-month photos.
Newborn Session Poses: The Bucket Pose | Boston Newborn Photographers
The Bucket Pose:
To the right are some examples of the bucket pose from my newborn photography studio in Framingham, MA. This pose is where the baby is placed in a bucket/planter/box with most of their body inside the prop and their head resting gently on their arms outside of the prop.
The beauty of the newborn bucket pose lies in its versatility. There are some prop poses that only let the photographer get one or two images for a gallery, but the bucket pose is a different story. This pose allows for creative compositions, beautiful angles, close-ups, or wider shots. This a wonderful pose to get a great straight-on headshot of your newborn. Most poses won’t allow for this.
Positioning the baby in the bucket is relatively easy for photographers and the baby is very comfortable and tends to melt right into the prop. Sometimes I find it hard to move to the next scene because the baby is so relaxed and happy.
I highly recommend requesting this pose when planning your newborn session. You will be thrilled with the results!
